Dr. Gregory Geoffroy

Frater Dr. Gregory Geoffroy is an initiate of the Alpha-Chi Chapter at the University of Louisville. Greg earned his BS with honors from the University of Louisville in 1968. He served as an officer in the US Navy from 1969 to 1970 and then earned his Ph.D. in chemistry in 1974 from the California Institute of Technology. He began his academic career as an assistant professor of chemistry at the Pennsylvania State University in 1974. He was appointed head of the Dept of Chemistry in 1988 and dean of the Eberly College of Science in 1989.

In 1997, Greg was appointed senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Maryland, where he served as interim president for two months in 1998. Frater Greg became president of Iowa State University in 2001, overseeing two strategic plans, while also holding the rank of professor of chemistry. He has announced his retirement effective no later than July 1, 2012. At the 2011 Conclave, Frater Greg was inducted into the Circle of Excellence.
