Rod Talbot began his Teke career in 1975 joining Beta-Chi chapter at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale on November 18, 1975. He served the chapter as Hegemon, Histor, and two terms as Prytanis. During his term as Prytanis, he instituted a new non hazing initiation program that increased the chapter size from 24 to over 65 members. He also played two years on the SIU baseball team and then was the team captain of the Teke softball team that won the SIU slow pitch softball tournament. He was also captain and quarterback of the chapter flag football team. During his senior year, he served the SIU Greek system as the Chairman of the Inter-Greek Council overseeing the activities of all the Fraternities and Sororities at SIU. He was awarded Southern Illinois University Greek of the Year in 1979, along with membership in the prestigious Ra Ribbon Society. Upon graduation, he was selected by TKE as one of the recipients of International Top Teke of the Year for 1979. He graduated SIU with a bachelor's degree in finance, specializing in financial institutions.
After graduation, TKE Headquarters hired Rod as a Chapter Services Director for a year and a half. He traveled extensively to over 100 chapters primarily in the Northeast consulting them on chapter management, alumni relations, chapter finances, rush programs, and public relations. The last six months of his professional fraternity experience was starting chapters from scratch or spending extensive time located at specific chapters needing additional rush assistance. He was awarded membership in the Knights of Apollo for his service to the fraternity.
After leaving the employment of the Fraternity, he continued his involvement with TKE as a member of the Scholarship Committee. He was also the Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Educational Foundation and wrote the original investment policy statement for the TEF funds. He was Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Fraternity from 1989-2005. He has served his home chapter of Beta-Chi as the Board of Trustees Chairman and Alumni Association President. He is also a Life Loyal Teke. He was also awarded the Teke Alumnus of the Year award in 2005 at the Conclave in New Orleans.
Professionally, Rod began his professional investment career with E.F. Hutton in 1981, where he specialized in pension plan consulting and management of individual stock and commodity accounts. Seven years later, he joined Prescott, Ball and Turben, a division of Kemper Securities, as a senior investment manager. He joined Raymond James in 1991 as an investment manager with Raymond James Financial Services. With the support of Raymond James, he founded Talbot Asset Management, focused on becoming one of the premier investment advisory firms in Florida. He currently manages over $60 million dollars with clients all over the United States and Great Britain. Committed to his motto, "Excellence in Money Management", he has been awarded membership in the Raymond James Executive Council for eight straight years. This award recognizes distinguished service to clients, high levels of professional performance and exemplary levels of success and leadership. He holds his Series 3,4,7,24,52,63, and 65 licenses. He is also a past winner of the USA Today State of Indiana Stock Picking Contest.
He lives in Winter Garden, FL, with his wife Debbie, and their children, Haley, Ryan, and Carly. He is Vice President of the Rotary Club of Winter Garden. He is also on the governmental affairs and economic development committees of the West Orange Chamber of Commerce. Besides economics and the stock market, his interests include golf, softball, and traveling.
