Obtaining Emerging Chapter Status

The first step in becoming a TKE chapter is to obtain emerging chapter status. When a group of men on a campus where no TKE chapter is in existence want to become an emerging chapter, they need to receive permission from the Grand Council. This is achieved by sending two supporting documents to the Offices of the Grand Chapter.

1. A resolution signed by a minimum of 20 members of your group, including their email address and phone number, indicating desire to become a chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon.
2. A letter of support from the appropriate University official, granting support for your group to associate with Tau Kappa Epsilon.
3. There is at least one adult advisor serving as either Chapter Advisor or Faculty Advisor.

After both of these documents have been received, a Primary Inspection will be conducted by a representative of the Fraternity. The purpose is to:

• Verify the number of men in the group.
• Review the documents that have been sent to the Offices of the Grand Chapter.
• Answer questions.

Following the Primary Inspection, the Grand Council votes on whether or not to grant emerging chapter status. If emerging chapter status is granted, a document recognizing the group as an official TKE chapter will be sent.

Once recognized as an emerging chapter, you are encouraged to identify yourselves as such and use TKE supplies in your day-to-day operations. The Fraternity's area servicing team is available to assist your group in becoming a chapter, a goal that needs to be accomplished within two years.

BE IT RESOLVED, that the undersigned desires to establish an emerging chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity at (name of university); that the objectives of the emerging chapter are to exemplify and uphold the ideals and traditions of (name of university) and to become a duly installed chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution signed by all members, be immediately mailed to the Offices of the Grand Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

I have been informed by a group of students on our campus that they wish to become affiliated with your International Fraternity, and that subsequently they will petition for a charter to become an active undergraduate chapter of your Fraternity.
 

The administration of the university wishes to express its consent to this desire, providing that all requirements of your organization are met.
 

It is understood that prior to its chartering as a chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon, the group must submit a written petition indicating its desire, history, etc., and a letter from the university administration indicating that all rules, regulations and requirements of this university have been met and that final approval is given for the group to receive its charter. We find this procedure to be satisfactory.
