Each expansion project takes on its own personality. The two Expansion Consultants will spend time on campus to become familiar with the campus culture. Meetings are initiated between the Expansion Consultants and the local stakeholders. We consider the following individuals or groups to be the local stakeholders: campus administrators, faculty members, student organization leaders and IFC/Panhellenic leaders.
Constant contact with the campus Greek Advisor is crucial to the success of the expansion effort. Moreover, area alumni are contacted and a series of meetings will be held to inform them on the expansion process and explain in detail the importance of alumni support. These meetings will allow us to identify key alumni from which a Board of Advisors will be formed.
Undergraduates are recruited through a recommendation process. Our process does not rely on a mass marketing approach. Recommendations are solicited from meetings with the aforementioned stakeholders. Tau Kappa Epsilon seeks to recruit individuals who set scholarship as their top priority; who involve themselves on campus and in the community; who are competitive and team players; and who treat themselves and others with respect.
After the eight week colonization process is completed, the campus will be left with a well respected, fully functional fraternity. The newly formed colony will be given the necessary attention and resources to overcome any early struggles that may arise. Constant communication between the alumni, area volunteers, the Director of Chapter Services, the Expansion Team and the Regional Servicing Team will ensure that the colony is provided with the necessary resources and support.
In addition, the colony will submit reports to the local alumni volunteers and to the Director of Chapter Services. The report will cover basic operations including finances, recruitment, community service, alumni involvement and colony management in general. The Director of Chapter Services along with the Expansion Team will maintain regular contact and will schedule two visits per colony per year. The visits will focus on programming and recruitment. The first visit generally takes place within the first ninety days of the colonization.
