Frater Receives High Honor In Dentistry

Frater and Dr. Dwight D. Duckworth of Beta-Psi Chapter (Arkansas State University) was inducted as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists at its 77th Annual Convocation in Las Vegas.

An honorary organization for the recognition of outstanding and meritorious service to the profession and community, the College presented Dr. Duckworth with a membership plaque, a gold lapel pin and a gold key symbolic of this Fellowship for conspicuous service rendered the art and science of dentistry.

In an impressive cap and gown ceremony, over 260 dentists from the United States were inducted into the College at this year's ceremony witnessed by hundreds of members and guests. The College, with representative chapters in more than 80 countries, has approximately 10,000 members, including more than 6,200 in the United States.

Dr. Duckworth is also the current president of Arkansas Academy of General Dentistry and on the Executive Council for the Arkansas State Dental Association.

The former Manila resident lives in Springdale where he is in private practice. He and his wife Mia have two daughters, Alyssa, 13, and Ashley, 11.

Dr. Duckworth did his pre-dental work at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro where he graduated with a BS in Zoology in 1985. He graduated from dental school at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, La., Doctor of Dental Surgery in May 1989. He received his post-doctoral in 1990 in Advanced Education Program in General Dentistry at Fort Campbell, Ky. and Advanced Trauma Life Support in 1990, Advanced Cardiac Life Support in 1991, Academy of General Dentistry Fellowship in 2001, Academy of General Dentisry Mastership in 2004.

Dr. Duckworth's appointments include Advanced Education in General Dentistry, one year, at Fort Campbell, Ky.; Northwest Arkansas District Dental Society, secretary/treasurer, three years; Arkansas Young Dentist Committee; Arkansas Academy of General Dentistry, president-elect; Arkansas Academy of General Dentistry National Delegate; Academy of General Dentistry, National Examinations Council, 2002-2006 Exam committee, Team "A," 2006 Chairman, Team "A," and 2006 Examinations Council.

Dr. Duckworth also serves on the City Planning Commission of Springdale, Arkansas State Dental Association Executive Council and the University of Arkansas (Fort Smith) School of Dental Hygiene Advisory Council. He is a proud member of TKE, Psi Omega Dental Fraternity, Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association, Arkansas State Dental Association, Northwest Arkansas District Dental Association, Ozark Dental Association (past president), Academy of Interdisciplinary Dentofacial Therapy.

Honors he received include the Army Service Ribbon; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal (2); ROTC Scholarship; honor graduate; ROTC Advanced Camp; Top Graduate ROTC 1985; Air Assault Badge; German Armed Forces Physical Training Badge (Gold Award).

Dr. Duckworth has an interest in all aspects of general dentistry with emphasis on occlusion. He is a member of First United Methodist Church where he is past president of Methodist Men. He is pursuing a private pilot's license and is a volunteer at Washington County Free Health Clinic.
