Bob Barr Appointed to Grand Council; Levinson Named Judiciary Chair
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Grand Council of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity has announced the appointment of Frater Robert L. Barr, Jr. (pictured right) to the TKE Grand Council. Frater Barr will serve as Grand Histor, an office recently vacated by Frater Charles J. Trabold. The eight member Grand Council serves as the Fraternity's board of directors.
In announcing the selection, Grand Prytanis Mark K. Johnson stated "Bob Barr is a superb Frater and a proven leader. His experience as a respected public official, commentator, and having served on numerous boards of directors will serve TKE and our Grand Council well. We very much welcome him to our Teke leadership team." Barr assumes the role of Grand Histor immediately.
Frater Barr was initiated into TKE in 1967 at the University of Southern California, Beta-Sigma Chapter. He is a Life Loyal Teke, and recipient of both the Teke Alumnus of the Year (2001) and TKE Triangle awards (2005). Barr was appointed by President Ronald Reagan (Iota Chapter, Eureka College) as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia (1986-90), served as a high ranking leader in the U.S. House of Representatives (1995-2003), and has been a columnist and contributor to several media outlets. Frater Barr currently serves as CEO of Liberty Strategies, LLC, an Atlanta-based public and governmental relations firm.
Grand Prytanis Mark Johnson also announced the appointment of Frater Daniel R. Levinson (pictured right) as the Fraternity's new Judiciary Committee Chairman. The judiciary committee serves as advisors to the Grand Chapter, Grand Council, and CEO on matters related to TKE rules and operations. Levinson is also an alumnus from the Beta-Sigma Chapter, and currently heads the Office of Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. He previously served as Inspector General for the U.S. General Services Administration and as General Counsel for the U.S. Product Safety Commission.
Frater Charlie Trabold will continue to serve the Fraternity on a number of special projects and provide leadership to chapters in the Northeast. Trabold has also been named as TKE's delegate to the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC), the trade association which represents the men's college fraternity system. "With his experience on the Grand Council, professional staff, and with the Association of Fraternity Advisors, I can think of no one better suited to represent TKE," said Kevin Mayeux, TKE Chief Executive Officer. "We're grateful that both TKE and the fraternity movement will continue to benefit from Charlie's strong leadership."
