TKE Before and After Showdown

TKE Before and After Showdown

Before and After ShowdownINDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Housing can be an important part of the fraternity experience. Unfortunately, housing sometimes does not meet our and potential recruits' expectations. Good housing can serve as a tool for recruitment, retention and lead to a more complete fraternity experience. To encourage maintenance of our existing chapter houses and those chapters who would like to explore potential housing options we would like to introduce the "Before and After Showdown." This is an event to invite your active members, alumni, and parent groups to come to the chapter house and donate their time, energy, expertise, and money to improve the existing residence, or fundraise for housing. If your house is in good condition already or there is no want or possibility of getting a house, this day can be spent helping those in our community with housing needs.

Minimum requirements for the event include: checking fire alarm batteries, buying new or checking existing fire extinguishers, and overall clean up of the entire house.

Ideas for potential improvements:
1)      Form a house corporation for meetings on future housing arrangements and Fundraising events for housing.
2)      Spend a day with Habitat for Humanity.
3)      For those with existing houses (rent or own) build a deck, landscape, tile kitchen and/ or bathroom, paint inside and out, add energy saving items, add/ improve life safety items, automatic door closers, fire guard power strips.
4)      For other ideas visit these websites: This Old House, Better Homes and Garden, Home Depot.

There are five (5) prizes that will be awarded to "most improved" chapters. There will be a $100 Home Depot gift card for 1st place in each region and a $1000.00 Home Depot gift card for the Grand prize winner.

Once you schedule the day of the event, email Housing Coordinator Tyler Baker the date, time, and what service you intend to work on. On the day of the event make sure to take before and after pictures, and provide a detailed description of the work done. Send all of this to:
