The Position
 
Tau Kappa Epsilon International Fraternity (TKE) is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CEO will report to the Grand Council, which serves as the Board of Directors for the Fraternity. Working under a policy governance model, the CEO leads TKE with the responsibility to achieve the objectives established by the Grand Council. The Offices of the Grand Chapter (international headquarters) is located in Indianapolis, IN. TKE produces and distributes resources to chapters and colonies throughout the US and Canada. With an overall budget of $4.9M, the approximately 30 staff members provide services including educational programs, membership recruitment and retention products, regional and international conferences, liability management, chapter and alumni communications, and publications. In addition, chapter and member services personnel are responsible for chapter visitation, officer education and management assistance to the more than 280 TKE chapters across North America.
 
Objectives for the CEO will be to:
 
·     Continue to grow the Grand Chapter by increasing the number of chapters, average chapter size and retention rates with the result of TKE continuing to lead its Greek peers in the 21st century.
 
·     Deliver high quality, well attended networking and learning opportunities that reinforce TKE’s core beliefs and end statement – Better Men for a Better World.
 
·     Increase the number of volunteers in the TKE, while encouraging collegiate members to work heavily with service and philanthropic partners.
 
·     Operate TKE within established budgets while achieving agreed upon metrics.
 
In this position, the CEO will have an opportunity to work with a staff and board committed to building better men to build a better world. The emphasis is on finding ways to serve members and to make a positive impact on the world. TKE is a healthy organization whose board is focused and committed to continuing a strong, forward-looking Fraternity.
 
Requirements 

To be a candidate for the CEO position at TKE, an individual must have management experience in a multi-level organization. In addition, they will have had responsibility for management of budget and financial matters. The successful candidate will have millennial generation exposure, strong communication skills, in particular public speaking and writing skills, are required, as are conflict resolution and negotiation skills. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with a policy governance model, as well as mentoring experience. 

The successful candidate must be able to relate well to multiple generations and have a commanding presence. Because of work with volunteers, the CEO must be able to earn respect and use a situational leadership style. At times, the CEO must be a diplomat and always be personable. Candidates with a graduate degree are preferred.
 
Candidates must be a member of the TKE Fraternity or willing and able to join. The position is based in Indianapolis; however, it will entail approximately 40% travel. 
 
Organization
 
TKE is proud of its long history and of its recent accomplishments. They currently have more than 280 groups and 10,500 collegiate members across North America, with over 254,000 total members since their founding. The organization has achieved several successes in recent years. Most notably, TKE has seen growth both in their recruitment and retention numbers for three straight years as well as dramatic increases in conference attendance.
 
A 501(c) 7, TKE’s international headquarters is in Indianapolis and their staff of approximately 30 recently moved into a new facility. The staff maintains the day-to-day operations of the TKE enterprise, including the TKE Educational Foundation, a 501(c) 3, which is a separate organization with its own President and Board of Directors.
 
The Fraternity’s governing body is the Grand Chapter. Primarily made up of collegiate members, the Grand Chapter meets at the biennial Conclave (International Convention) to vote on constitution and bylaw amendments and to elect the Grand Council. The members of the Grand Council act as the Board of Directors for a two-year period. Volunteers are critical to the Fraternity’s efforts. Each chapter has local volunteers who work in an advisory capacity, as well as regional volunteers who serve as the main liaison to the OGC staff. Volunteerism has increased over the last ten years at TKE and needs to continue to ensure overall success. 
 
TKE continues its mission of aiding men in their mental, moral and social development for life with the stated organization purpose of contributing to the advancement of society through the personal growth of their members and service to others. TKE is unique among fraternities in that they have had a non-exclusionary policy since their founding. TKE is committed to building better men to build a better world.
 
They hold a Conclave (International Convention) every two years. Each spring they conduct Regional Leadership Conferences (five are planned for 2011.)  They have a week-long Leadership Academy, as well as regional servicing team planning conferences.
