What is the Code of Conduct?

GreekBillINDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - You recently received a letter from the TKE and one from GreekBill requesting your signature on the TKE Code of Conduct. The TKE Code of Conduct is an annual review that includes the TKE Member Terms and Conditions, Risk Management Guidelines and Alcohol Guidelines. It is important that you read and electronically sign each. If you have questions or concerns contact  GreekBill ("live chat" in the lower righthand side of their site or by calling 1-800-457-3816).

Why does GreekBill say I have to sign a contract?
It is confusing, but it's more a reflection of their technology. You are NOT signing a contract to move to GreekBill. You are signing the TKE Code of Conduct. We are using GreekBill because they have the technology. Next fall we will have our own tool you can sign.
Why are we doing this?
  1. Education - It is important that you clearly understand what is expected by TKE and your university. Read the guidelines and follow them. They will help you manage risk. They will also help you host events that are safe and fun for everyone.

  2. Reduce incidents - Following the TKE policies and guidelines will keep you, your brothers and your guests out of harms way reducing incidents.

  3. Reduce cost - TKE has one of the highest insurance premiums in the Greek world. By considerably reducing our incidents, you will save money. For example, if you repeatedly crashed your car, your insurance premium would keep going up. This is what has happened at TKE. We must get this under control.

  4. You save money - I hope to bring down our insurance and AMF premiums for next year. Your continuous focus on safety, abolishing hazing and responsible alcohol consumption will have a very positive impact.

  5. Save your career - We've had more than 20 brothers arrested this year. If convicted of a felony their prospect for a job is limited. Every job application asks you if you have ever been convicted of a felony. Whether you answer yes or the company finds out in a criminal check, your resume goes in the trash.
Do volunteers have to sign this?
Yes. Details will follow in a separate note, but Alumni TKE volunteer officers, such as Grand Province Advisors, Province Advisors, Board of Advisors Members and Chapter Advisors, are required to sign the TKE Volunteer Terms and Conditions.
What if I decide not to sign it?
Your Regional Director or Associate Regional Director will be chatting with you to make sure you are educated on the importance of guidelines and address questions you have. They can also schedule to do TIPS training for your chapter.
If you still choose not to sign then your chapter will be moved immediately to "high risk" status and depending on your current status may be billed an additional $70 per man for insurance.
The chapter may be put on temporary suspension halting all social activities pending an investigation by your chapter's Support Team.
Be a leader!
We must stop all behavior that is unbecoming of a Teke. Be a leader in your chapter focusing on the great brotherhood that TKE provides. Drive toward your KRAs and through this build a strong resume for your future career. If you need help let me know.
Good News
The good news is that most chapters are following these guidelines. Already, more than one third of all of our chapters are "low risk" with more moving in that direction. Even our "medium risk" chapters saved money this year.
The Future
TKE has been engaging major corporations to become sponsors of the Fraternity. If we can ALL get on the good path then they will help fund our events and activities. These sponsorships could reduce our membership costs, be used to provide scholarships or reduce membership fees.
Thank you for your leadership. This really is a good thing and every job you get when you graduate will require an annual signature.
