Two RLCs Down, Three to Go

Two RLCs Down, Three to Go

Fraters at the San Fran RLCWould you travel 4,000 miles to show the TKE Nation how dedicated you are as a Frater? Brad Bedford, Past Prytanis Upsilon-Gamma (Univ. of Minnesota-Duluth) did just that. He, along with more than 200 others, made the Greg & Cay Woodson San Francisco Regional Leadership Conference a success.

"This was my third RLC at three different locations. We traveled all the way from Duluth to San Francisco, but this was by far the best RLC experience I could have imagined. The sessions were incredible and well worth the effort."

In addition to excellent programming, Fraters are offered a unique opportunity to network with both collegiates and alumni. Frater Jorge-Simon Martinez of Colony 845 (California State Univ. - East Bay) said his experience was one he’ll never forget.

"RLC in San Francisco was incredible - I could not have asked for anything better. I am new to TKE but loved getting to know Tekes from all across the nation. This was my first RLC and I am planning on coming back next year. Plus, I can't wait for Conclave in Washington D.C.!"

This was also a chance for colonies to learn about what it takes to charter and become a Top TKE Chapter. Colony 852 (University of California-Santa Cruz) submitted their application at the RLC.

"This was the most incredible experience I could have imagined," said Frater Matt Chung, Prytanis of Colony 852. "After three years of work, we turned in our Charter petition to Grand Prytanis Ed Moy in front of 250 of my closest friends. I could not have asked for a better RLC."

The Philadelphia RLC was the largest gathering of Fraters in recent memory for a conference like this with more than 400. Similar to the sentiments on the West coast, alumni and collegiate members had an amazing time. TKE's Director of Standards Frater Adam Kearns (Mu-Chi, Univ. of North Carolina-Wilmington) said he was very happy to see how everyone seemed to take full advantage of the opportunities available.

"The fireside chats were an excellent chance for a chapter to pose a specific question to a member of the professional staff who is well versed in an area. The majority of my discussions were on risk reduction and proper chapter court proceedings when holding members accountable. Sitting down one-on-one with someone to discuss concerns plaguing their chapter or ideas they have to grow membership is an opportunity that doesn't come often."

During the weekend, more than 60 Fraters from 15 chapters were trained in TiPS (Training for Intervention Procedures). The interactive participation enhanced the experience for everyone participating. This will also be offered at the next three RLCs - look at your schedule when you register on-site. If you would like to get trained at your chapter, email us.

In addition to all of this, the RLC is a great chance to meet TKE Professional Staff members. If you are looking for a position to help take this Fraternity to greater heights, the Offices of the Grand Chapter has a place for you. Contact us for more information on openings and send us a cover letter and resume with references. More information will be available soon.

What was your experience like? We want to know. Email us and be sure to include a picture for use in the next edition of THE TEKE magazine.

There are still spots open for the remaining sites, but they are quickly disappearing.
