Tips for Summer Recruitment

Tips for Summer Recruitment
Across the TKE Nation chapters are using summer recruitment to continue the lifeblood of the Fraternity. Great weather and great potential new members (PNMs) can make for an unforgettable school year. Get your sun screen and notepad ready; let's look at 6 tips that will help you recruit during the summertime.

S – Socialize through Service

Service is a major part of the Tau Kappa Epsilon experience. If you invited your PNMs to a service project would they attend? If you can honestly say, "yes" about a specific PNM then look no further for someone to bid. Service projects are a great way to understand personal values of your PNMs, as well as show what the Fraternity can do with a collective effort. If a PNM would sacrifice a summer day for a service project then imagine his dedication during the school year.

U- Understand the Differences in PNMs

Not every PNM is the same so you need to mix it up. Tau Kappa Epsilon values its members and their differences, but are we achieving this if we have the same recruitment events at the same locations time and time again? Take the time to get to know each PNM by inviting them to multiple events in multiple settings. See a sports game, go on a run, shred on the video games, or just invite them over for dinner with your family. Want to know if this person is a future brother? Treat them like a brother.

M- Membership Involvement

The recruitment chair should not be the only person putting events together. If there are members on the east side and west side of your state then delegate a summer recruitment chair for each side. Make a competition out of it. Who can recruit more? Who will recruit the most future E-Board members? A summer recruitment event with less than 10% of the chapter population present can tell the PNM that the chapter doesn't care, or the chapter is struggling and is desperate for recruitment results.

M- Meaningful Conversations

Steer away from, "What's your major going to be", and "Where did you go to high school." Think of questions that will help you get to know that individual. "What's your favorite movie?" "If you had an entrance song everywhere you went what would it be?" "What is your family like?" "What is your dream job?" Share answers and help them understand how TKE can be a part of their future success, experience, and development if they join.

E- Evaluate with Esteem

Remember that once you meet a PNM you are most likely their first encounter with Tau Kappa Epsilon. Up until this point in their life they have not had the Fraternity to help guide their daily actions. Think about what each PNM can contribute to the Fraternity and to your chapter. Never lose sight of the opportunity for TKE to change that individual's life as well. What would this experience do for that PNMs goals and dreams?

R- Remember your Experience

It is always effective to remember how and why you joined Tau Kappa Epsilon. You most likely joined because of a specific person or persons. Treat every interaction you have with recruits as the most important conversation of their lives. A brief memory in your life could also be a groundbreaking moment for them, and the ultimate reason why they join TKE.

It is time for the summer. It is time to recruit.
