5 Tips for a Safe Halloween

5 Tips for a Safe Halloween

Halloween is a time of the year that most members of Tau Kappa Epsilon decide to dress up in a costume and partake in evening festivities. TKE members transform into vampires, zombies, characters from Duck Dynasty, famous athletes, or even superheroes. The truth is, even though Halloween is a time to consume a bunch of candy and stay up to all hours of the night; our members should make an effective risk management plan that will keep all members and friends safe this Halloween. Here are 5 tips that will help you have a safe Halloween:

Bring Caution to the Floor

It is common for incidents to occur from steep staircases or a slippery floor due to spilt water while bobbing for apples. Bright neon yellow signs should alarm members and guests of these cautious locations in any setting. Make sure there are plenty of resources available in case a spill occurs so that nobody slips, falls and injures themselves or others.

Know Who is at Your Event

Maintaining a guest list will help you register who has and has not attended the event. Politely ask the guy in the wolf mask to remove it in order to make sure he is a registered participant of the event. The last thing you want is a random person you have never met to ruin your Halloween because you did not have a guest list.

Treat Your Setting as a Home

Make sure that you always have someone protecting the door. Checking IDs at the door is an effective way to lower risk. Never provide alcohol in anyway. Make sure everyone is where you want them to be; if people wander around the facility then politely escort them back to the appropriate area.

Know Your Resources

The chapter Prytanis should know the contact information of every resource available to his chapter. The local police department, the University/College administration, and the Offices of the Grand Chapter of TKE are great resources to help out in any crisis situation you might be in.

Be Your Brother's Keeper

Make sure that every member has another member looking out for him. This is not the same as a "buddy system". Being your brother's keeper means that you treat that night as the most important night of the year. Be safe, think ahead, and always make the smart decision.
