Staff of TKE - Kyle Erdman

Fraternal Services Specialist

INDIANAPOLIS - In the summer of 2010, a photographer named Brandon began taking photos of thousands of New Yorkers. His goal was to put a face to the image that people had of the different New York boroughs and its inhabitants. As if overnight, Humans of New York became a worldwide sensation.

We looked at the Humans of New York project and realized we faced a similar challenge. Many individuals outside of the Fraternity's immediate points of contact do not truly know who is answering the phone, posting on social media or handling various tasks at the organizational level. For that reason, we are excited to launch a new edition of "Staff of TKE." Every two weeks we will highlight a new individual on TKE's Professional Staff. Each post will include two photos and a candid conversation. Enjoy!

There are two Alpha-Gamma Tekes in the office, which one are you?
I'm the one who is on the road more, and I'm the one who will never shy away from a dance off – except if it were Chris Brown. I am also the taller of the two, sorry Danny.

How have you enjoyed living and working in Indianapolis?
We have a great staff here. Indianapolis has been a great location for me to develop myself as a professional. Indy is also a hub for large scale sporting events. Seeing the Indianapolis 500, the Final Four, and the NBA Finals all in one city is something I did not experience back home in Spokane, Washington.

Who is your favorite superhero?
Iron Man. You have to applaud Tony Stark for paving his own way and having a lot of fun while doing it. Innovation and creativity are attributes that make leaders successful today. Plus, Robert Downy, Jr. is one of my favorite actors.

What are your hobbies outside of the office?
I love video games, fantasy sports and arguing about irrelevant topics with Alex Swenson. I'm always following Washington State University athletics. Go Cougs.

What has been your best memory on staff?
I would have to say Gamma-Kappa's re-chartering last year. It was an inspiring event to see a group of committed Fraters start with 11 men and take it to 56 passionate, driven individuals. It reminded me of when my brothers and I started the Alpha-Gamma chapter at Washington State University back in 2009. Those men are definitely heading in the right direction, and I'm very excited to see what they accomplish in the future.

How has it been working with the new group at Michigan State University?
The Tekes at Michigan State University show a level of excitement about TKE that I have not seen in awhile. They remind me a lot of the time I spent with the Gamma-Kappa chapter. Between them and my boys at Central Michigan University – I think there is going to be some great competition in the state of Michigan moving forward.

Conclave 2015 is in New Orleans. What are you looking forward to?
Having Tekes take over Bourbon Street is something I've seen photos of in the past, and I've always wanted to be a part of. I'm excited to meet U.S Olympian Johnny Quinn and hear his message. This summer's Conclave will be one for the record books.

What's your advice for today's collegiate members?
You define your experience in college and the experience of those around you. Stay motivated in doing what is hard and not always taking the easy way out of situations. Stay hungry and stay humble.

The next edition of "Staff of TKE" will appear Friday, April 17.
