Service Organizations

The Alzheimer's Association is an official TKE philanthropy. The Alzheimer’s Association is the largest voluntary health organization committed to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s and helping those affected by the disease. Having awarded more than $100 million in research grants, the Alzheimer's Association ranks as the top private funder of research into the causes, treatments, prevention, and cure of Alzheimer’s disease. The Association also provides education and support for people diagnosed with the condition, their families, and caregivers.

In addition to the Alzheimer's Association, the following organizations should be considered for community service projects by your Chapter or Colony:

@ngelwish
This organization was created by Frater Shimmy Mehta, who developed it from the TKE Challenge for Pediatric AIDS. @ngelwish makes it simple and rewarding to grant the wishes of children living with HIV/AIDS throughout the United States.

American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service.

American Diabetes Association
The American Diabetes Association is the nation’s leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information, and advocacy. Founded in 1940, the American Diabetes Association conducts programs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, reaching more than 800 communities. The mission of the organization is to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. To fulfill its mission, the American Diabetes Association funds research, publishes scientific findings, provides information and other services to people with diabetes, their families, health care professionals, and the public, as it advocates for scientific research and for the rights of people with diabetes.

American Red Cross
The American Red Cros is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers that provides relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Big Brothers Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, www.bbbsa.org, is the nation's oldest and largest youth mentoring organization. Since 1904, caring adult volunteers have been helping millions of children reach their full potential and fulfill their dreams. Our programs in all 50 states match kids with mentors who provide meaningful friendships and share fun experiences.

Boy Scouts of America
The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in citizenship, and to develop personal fitness.

Boys & Girls Club of America
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America exist to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. A Boys & Girls Club provides a safe place to learn to grow; ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals; life-enhancing programs and character development experiences; and hope and opportunity.

Break Away
Break Away has the mission to promote service on the local, regional, national and international levels through break-oriented programs which immerse students in often vastly different cultures, heighten social awareness and advocate life-long social action.

Childeren's Miracle Network
The Children's Miracle Network was created in 1983 by the Osmond Family Foundation to raise funds for, and educate the public about, the important work tha children’s hospitals do. It has become the largest telethon in the world. The Children's Miracle Network has one goal in mind: to support the high level of health care that ensures our children a chance at a better life and a brighter future. With your help, this goal can become a reality.

Easter Seals
For more than 80 years, Easter Seals has been providing services that help children and adults with disabilities gain greater independence. Their primary services -- medical rehabilitation, job training and employment, inclusive child care, adult day service, and camping and recreation -- benefit more than one million individuals and their families each year at one of 400 centers nationwide.

Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races, and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Habitat has built more than 100,000 houses around the world, providing more than 500,000 people in more than 2,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training is the world's largest endurance sports training program. The program provides training to run or walk a whole or half marathon or participate in a triathlon or century (100-mile) bike ride. Since 1988, more than 295,000 volunteer participants have helped raise more than $660 million.

Muscular Dystrophy Family Foundation, Inc.
The Muscular Dystrophy Family Foundation, provides services, resources, home medical equipment and adaptive devices to help people with muscular dystrophy and their family members live independent and productive lives. Since 1958, a dedicated staff of professionals and volunteers has offered direct services to those with Muscular Dystrophy and their families.

Special Olympics
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for individuals with mental retardation by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Take Stock in Children
Take Stock in Children is a comprehensive program that helps low-income children succeed by providing college and vocational scholarships, volunteer mentors, student advocates/case managers, tutoring, early intervention and long-term support, high standards, parental involvement, and community support.

United Way

Through a vast network of volunteers and community service agents, United Ways throughout America help meet the health and human-care needs of millions of people every day. The mission of the United Way movement is to increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another.
