Indianapolis, IN – Construction began Wednesday on the Better Men for a Better World Courtyard at the Tau Kappa Epsilon International Headquarters.
A crew from the local landscaping company, Progressive Lawnscaping, started demolition work Wednesday morning, removing an old water feature and preparing the site for more than 2,500 bricks that will be laid as part of construction.
Initial construction is expected to take about two-and-a-half weeks, weather-permitting.
The Better Men for a Better World Courtyard has been designed to give Tekes throughout the world an affordable opportunity to have their name added to our International Headquarters. This courtyard will honor TKE's most hallowed values: Love, Charity, and Esteem; and will be constructed with bricks that will serve as a permanent testimony to those who have a love for TKE.
The TKE Educational Foundation is grateful for the many donors who have purchased a brick already, or sponsored one of the courtyard's featured elements.
During this construction period, a triangle-shaped water feature, three pillars, a statue of Apollo and all the bricks will be installed. More than 500 inscribed bricks will be part of the construction. Expected early in 2013, a monument to honor Tekes who have served in the military will be added to the courtyard.
Once the courtyard is completed, an official dedication ceremony is targeted for late in 2013.
It's not too late to purchase a brick for inscription and limited sponsorship opportunities for key features in the courtyard remain as well. Bricks range in prices from $100 to $1,500, depending on size, color and location in the courtyard. After construction, the courtyard will be updated with newly ordered bricks at least once a year.
