August Volunteer of the Month: David Lefcourt

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - "I believe in volunteering because I want other Tekes to have a great fraternal experience like I've had so far," said Frater David Lefcourt (Alpha-Nu, Univ. of New Hampshire). An alumni association president and founder for both the Alpha-Nu and Boston Area, and Region 1 Province Advisor, Frater David is committed to seeing the words spoken at initiation truly mean something.

"I volunteer because I want to give back to my fraternity," said Frater David. "When I was an undergrad, I met many great alumni that had a huge effect on my Teke experience and life. I enjoy working with the undergraduate chapters as well as meeting different Tekes throughout the country. My wife, Rebecca, is very supportive of my volunteer work."

Networking is often mentioned in passing as a great selling point for new members. But how many actually take advantage of the more than 200,000 living alumni? Frater David said he wants to facilitate this networking opportunity through the alumni associations he has founded.

"I get to meet many great Tekes every day as an alumni association president. I enjoy seeking out Tekes from different chapters and generations so we can interact and reminisce about our fraternity experiences."

What has made Frater David an excellent Teke and, more importantly, a key volunteer? He said it has to do with his idea of what an effective volunteer is.

"As a volunteer, you need to have an open mind and think creatively because you are dealing with so many personalities and issues." Frater David continued, "You need to set attainable goals and be persistent with achieving those goals."

As a City Arborist in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Frater David melds forestry and urban living together. He ensures the city's beauty by enhancing the quality of life for the community by providing high quality tree care and planting on City rights-of-way, in parks, and around public buildings.
