Educational Sessions, Kickoff a Success

Educational Sessions, Kickoff a Success

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The second day of Conclave provided attendees with dynamic educational programming for collegiates and alumni. The Teke Institute and Alumni Volunteer Academy kicked off Friday morning's activities. Close to 1000 men scattered among several breakout rooms for sessions ranging from "Understanding the Black Book" to "Recruitment" to The Blueprint and beyond.

“I wanted to go to every session, but it was kind of impossible,” said Frater Steve Holmsterom (Epsilon, Iowa State University). “There is a lot of good choices and things we need to learn about. Having multiple members at Conclave, we were able to spread out and now we can go back prepared for next year.”

Alumni have had a similar experience thus far at Conclave, citing excellent opportunities to network and catch-up with Fraters they may have lost contact with. Frater Louie Correa, Director of Alumni Relations, said this is exactly what this convention is all about.

“Conclave is an opportunity to learn some great new skills, but it also can be an amazing time to network if you take advantage of this time. The Life Loyal Teke reception is just one example of an ideal to time to advance both professional and personal development.”

The day was capped by an amazing parade down historic Bourbon Street. The street was jammed from side to side with Tekes led by the TKE International Sweethearts from 2008 and 2009 and Frater Buckwheat. It was truly a sight to see as the tourists and natives came to windows to see what the commotion was all about. Teke flags hung in the rafters as chants of “T-K-E” could be heard for about a mile.

The parade route ended at the House of Blues for a top-notch celebration with two Teke-led bands Awake in Reno and Mudflap Junkies, and WWE Wrestler and Custom Muscle co-founder Charlie Haas. They rocked well into the evening and a good time was had by all.

Saturday the tekes will be performing service at New Orleans City Park. The Second Session of the Grand Chapter will be held electing the Grand Council, amending the Black Book, and other activities. Awards will be handed out at the Grand Inaugural Banquet and celebrate the final day of activities. More news to come.
