CNN Names TKE's Frater Dale Beatty as CNN Heroes Finalist

STATESVILLE, NC. – CNN names Frater Dale Beatty, co-founder of Purple Heart Homes as a "CNN Heroes 2013 – Everyday People Changing the World" finalist. Purple Heart Homes is a nonprofit organization that focuses on the quality of living for veterans providing donated labor and materials that help any disabled veteran who is a homeowner, with repairs and maintenance.

Dale Beatty served in all positions of a Field Artillery Unit until 2003 when he was selected to become the full time National Guard Readiness NCO for the Statesville Unit (NC). In 2004, SSG Beatty was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where his unit was attached directly to the 1st Infantry Division near Bayji, Iraq.

On November 15, 2004 while on a patrol route that was littered with highly active insurgent operations, the vehicle Beatty was riding in was ripped apart by anti tank mines. The explosion was so severe that it left Beatty a double amputee below the knees.

Thanks to support from the Iredell Homes Builders Association and many members from the community from Statesville, NC as well as surrounding areas, a specially adapted barrier free home was built for Beatty and his family. Beatty served as the general contractor as the home was being constructed.

Dale, his wife Belinda, and their two children, Dustin and Lucas enjoy a close family life. In addition, Dale Beatty enjoys playing the drums in a band called ‘Southern Fried,' where weekend gigs fulfill his love and passion for music.

Tau Kappa Epsilon's Grand Prytanis Bob Barr said, "Frater Beatty is an inspiration and excellent representation of our Fraternity and our armed forces. His life's work is a reminder to all Tekes that our values of charity, esteem and love are more than words in our fraternity; that when put into action for the betterment of society, they become life's ritual."

The Offices of the Grand Chapter encourage all Fraters, friends, and family to go online, and vote for Frater Beatty in this honorable competition. We thank Frater Beatty for all of his service in the past, and the inspiring work that he continues to do in the future. We are proud to have heroes like him in our brotherhood.
