Preparing for St. Patrick's Day

Preparing for St. Patrick's Day

This Monday, March 17th is St. Patrick's Day. The consistently cold weather that has been hitting most parts of the United States and Canada will be ignored this weekend as people will dress like Leprechauns and represent shamrocks like TKE lettered shirts. An estimated $252 million will be spent on alcohol consumption this weekend. In preparation for St. Patrick's Day, here are some things that you should think about before you begin the festivities:

A Green Beer is Still a Beer

If you are of age to consume alcohol make sure that you know your limits. The excitement of an annual event like St. Patrick 's Day can blur your judgment of how much you have been drinking. Keep a count of your drinks and know when enough is enough. Remember that a drink is a drink is a drink:

Do Not Drink and Drive

Make sure you pre-set phone numbers of local taxi/cab services on your cell phone, and you are aware of public transportation routes and departure times. Find a designated driver before the night begins, and never forget the power you have of taking someone's keys who has had enough to drink.

Redefine St. Patrick's Day

Volunteer your morning and afternoon this weekend and give back to your local community. While many people will be going to parties and joining in on pub crawls, encourage the Tekes around you to dedicate some time and make the headlines in a different way.

If You are Hosting an Event

Make sure that there is water and un-salted snacks available for your guests. Developing a risk management plan for the weekend is a good way to stay ahead of issues that may arise during the evening. Please remember that "kegs" are not allowed under TKE's Risk Management Policy.

Enjoy the holiday and make sure you are doing what you can to be your brother's keeper.
