INDIANAPOLIS - On Friday, November 14, 2014, Grand Histor Dr. James Hickey was invested into the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta ("Order of Malta" or the "Order"). The investiture took place at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City during the Solemn Mass of Investiture. Celebrated by Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York and principal chaplain of the Order of Malta, Frater Hickey, with 70 Knights and Dames, was invested into the Sovereign Order of Malta, American Association.

"It is a tremendous honor and privilege to belong to an organization that gives to the sick and the poor," said Frater Hickey.

Founded in 1099, the Order is more than 900 years old and runs hospitals, medical centers, nursing homes and hospice care. The Order of Malta, from its origin and throughout history, has emphasized care of the sick and the poor.

With a membership of 13,500 Knights and Dames, the Order provides humanitarian relief and medical assistance in more than 120 nations during war, famine and natural disasters.

Frater Hickey's involvement with the Order of Malta originated in 2013 when he was nominated to join by a past student. Consequentially, Frater Hickey has spent the last year and a half giving back to the community around him through volunteer work with the elderly, sick and poor.
