Staff of TKE - Courtney Frechin

Courtney Frechin
Office Coordinator

INDIANAPOLIS - In the summer of 2010, a photographer named Brandon began taking photos of thousands of New Yorkers. His goal was to put a face to the image that people had of the different New York boroughs and its inhabitants. As if overnight, Humans of New York became a worldwide sensation.

We looked at the Humans of New York project and realized we faced a similar challenge. Many individuals outside of the Fraternity's immediate points of contact do not truly know who is answering the phone, posting on social media or handling various tasks at the organizational level. For that reason, we are excited to launch the first edition of "Staff of TKE." Every two weeks we will highlight a new individual on TKE's Professional Staff. Each post will include two photos and a candid conversation. Enjoy!

Easy question first. What’s your favorite color?

Pink, of course.

Why the ‘of course’?

I’ve just always liked pink. Oh, and Phi Mu is pink. Well, rose and white, but close enough.

What is it like to work for a Fraternity?

It’s a great atmosphere. I enjoy interacting with the staff and giving back to an organization that works to aid in the betterment of men. I was also on the executive board for Phi Mu during my time at IUPUI as philanthropy chair so I have always enjoyed giving back.

You’re also married to a Teke.

That is right. I spend a full day at the office with the Fraternity and then head home to my husband who I met as an undergraduate at IUPUI. I’ve embraced the opportunity to be surrounded by such a great group of men. We are always attending TKE events and it is great to interact with individuals who are still passionate about the Fraternity.

What are your hobbies?

I love spending time with my family. Oh, and traveling. I’m always taking a trip somewhere. Whether it’s around the state of Indiana or around the country, I love seeing new things. A majority of that comes from sporting events.

What are your favorite sporting events?

Basketball and softball are definitely some of my favorite sports. As for professional teams, I was born and raised in Indiana so the Colts and Pacers have my support.

Since you’re a Colts fan, what are your thoughts on DeflateGate?

The Colts didn’t play too well. They were going to lose regardless. I hate to say it because my boss (Chief Executive Officer Donald E. Aldrich) is a huge Colts fan, but let’s just say I hope they play better next year.

“Tau Kappa Epsilon. This is Courtney…. Ok, yes, Jill can take care of that for you. Let me transfer you.”

Are you on the phone a lot?

The main number to the Offices of the Grand Chapter comes to me so I answer about 10 million phone calls a day. Well, not really, but I’m definitely helping people get to where they need to go. I enjoy being able to help people out, but typically people are a little hesitant to call. That doesn’t need to be the case. I’m pretty friendly on the line.

You give all the office tours. Would you say you know the building better than anyone else who works here?

There are some individuals who have been here for much longer than I have. I would say I’m just lucky to be able to have the opportunity to work in such a beautiful building. The downstairs is filled with signed jerseys from famous athletes, the cafeteria has portraits of some of our most esteemed alumni and I love visiting the new Heritage Center that Dean Bob built over the course of a week during the summer. Being able to experience that every day is something that never gets old.

The next edition of “Staff of TKE” will appear Friday, February 20.
