Frater Art Stellar to Receive Ohio University Alumni Award

ATHENS, Ohio (Oct. 5, 2015) – Ohio University presented Art Stellar with The Medal of Merit for his work as a national educational leadership visionary and superintendent. Stellar, who received three consecutive degrees from Ohio University, will accept the prestigious award on Oct. 9 at the Alumni Awards Gala.

"These skilled, ambitious and devoted awardees make me feel proud to be a part of the Bobcat family," said Jennifer Neubauer, assistant vice president of Alumni Relations and executive director of the Alumni Association. "The time, talent and treasure that they give to Ohio University each year is astonishing, and we are delighted to be able to recognize their steadfast support to alma mater during Homecoming."

As Vice President of National Education Foundation and its subsidiary CyberLearning, Art Stellar has helped public schools across the country acquire $110 million and establish new online learning academies. He has authored over 500 publications and is a four-time Fulbright Scholar.

Stellar is recognized for his leadership in transforming school systems into productive organizations generating higher performance, including turning around finances and educational results. He won a landmark school desegregation case at the U.S. Supreme Court that validated reduction in achievement gap between African American and white students.

Stellar has served on the Ohio University Alumni Association Board of Directors, is co-founder and president of Central Ohio Chapter and served two terms as president of the Massachusetts Serving New England Chapter. He was a part of The Promise Lives Campaign Steering Committee for the College of Education and the Dean's Circle of Engagement.

Stellar is a recipient of 100+ recognitions for educational leadership, service, and excellence, and has served on many national professional and civic boards throughout his career, including the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Horace Mann League, and NY State PTA.

"I truly appreciate the work of Dr. Stellar not only as a leader in education, but also as an advocate for the principles of excellence established by the Alumni Association," said Renee A. Middleton, dean of the Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education. "In many ways he exceeds the requirements and expectations for this award. Dr. Stellar's ambition and intelligence are truly notable."
