Grand Council Announces Minimum Chapter Standards

INDIANAPOLIS - The constitution and bylaws of the North-American Interfraternity Conference serve as a benchmark for fraternal organizations to develop policies aimed to meet minimum standards for chapters and associated members.

As a leader in the Greek community, Tau Kappa Epsilon’s Grand Council took the initiative last March to include the following minimum standards for each chapter in TKE Nation:

  • Every chapter should have at least 20 men, and colonies should require at least 35 men to charter.
  • All chapters should be current (less than 90 days A/R) on financials to the Fraternity.
  • All chapters should achieve at least 60% of their Key Result Area goals on the TKE Chapter Module.

In addition, the Offices of the Grand Chapter has established the following requirements for each chapter and colony in TKE Nation.

Chapter Measurement   TKE Minimum Standard
Academics   2.3 GPA for incoming freshmen to join, 2.25 for those with college grades. Chapter maintains a 2.5 GPA for the active chapter.
Risk Management   All Tekes are expected to comply with TKE's Risk Management Guidelines. No chapter may have little sister programs, all must have comprehensive liability insurance, and all recruitment & new member activities must be alcohol free.
Values Communication   All chapters are expected to conduct a formal ritual meeting once per month during the academic year.
Educational Programming   TKE provides quality educational programming through Province Forums, Triangle Summits, Leadership Academy, and Conclave. All Tekes are encouraged to participate.
Volunteer Support   Every TKE chapter should have at least one Chapter Advisor and a functional Board of Advisors.
Manpower   Every TKE chapter should have at least 20 active members. Colonies require at least 35 members to charter.
Finances   Every TKE chapter, colony, and member is expected to be current on all financial obligations to the Fraternity.
