President Signs PATH, Making IRA Charitable Rollovers Permanent
On Friday, December 18, 2015, President Barack Obama signed into law the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015 (PATH). Included in the bill is the permanent extension of certain tax benefits for individuals, such as the IRA Charitable Rollover. The IRA Charitable Rollover, or Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), is a special provision allowing certain donors to exclude from taxable income -- and count toward their required minimum distribution -- certain transfers of Individual Retirement Account (IRA) assets that are made directly to public charities, which includes the TKE Educational Foundation.
Now that PATH has made the IRA Charitable Rollover permanent, IRA owners should consider potential tax benefits by utilizing this charitable giving strategy. For 2015, the decision must be made quickly (by December 31st).
Donors age 70-1/2 or older can use this popular option to support charities with tax-wise gifts of up to $100,000. Rollovers can count toward your minimum required distribution.
When you talk to your financial advisor or IRA agency to request a charitable rollover, the following information may be helpful. Charitable contributions to the TKE Educational Foundation are directed to:
