A New Chapter in TKE Leadership

A New Chapter in TKE Leadership

Frater Shawn BabineINDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - On Monday, July 19, 2010 we began a new chapter in our Fraternity's leadership.  TKE’s Grand Hegemon, Frater Shawn Babine, has left his position on the Grand Council and will succeed Frater Kevin Mayeux as TKE’s Chief Executive Officer. Frater Shawn will serve in this role on an interim basis while the Grand Council begins a comprehensive search for potential candidates.

On behalf of the Teke Nation, we thank Kevin Mayeux for his contributions to the Fraternity. During his ten-year tenure as CEO, the Fraternity has improved its finances, operations, and member services. TKE has experienced its largest membership increases in decades, higher program attendance, and recognition as a leader among the nation’s top fraternities and the non-profit community. Under Mayeux’s leadership, TKE established the Life Loyal Teke program, reinstituted a regional servicing model, developed The Blueprint program, and tripled the number of men attending the TKE Leadership Academy each year. The Fraternity also opened a new headquarters for the Teke Nation in Indianapolis, Indiana. We wish Kevin well as he takes on a senior leadership role in a large international nonprofit organization.

TKE is pleased to welcome Frater Shawn as interim CEO. Shawn’s long service to the Fraternity began when he joined the Teke Nation as an undergraduate at the University of Southern Maine in 1985, where he served as Grammateus, Epiprytanis, and Prytanis for two terms. Shawn was also the President of the Interfraternity Council and was the first Teke elected to the Northeast Interfraternity Council.

The Offices of the Grand ChapterShawn has been an active TKE alumnus. He is the recipient of TKE’s 2009 Volunteer of the Year Award. As a TKE Volunteer, Shawn has been active with Regional Leadership Conferences, Province Educational Conferences, the Alumni Volunteer Academy and Regional Planning Conferences. He has served on several Chapters’ Board of Advisors, as a District Vice President, a Province Advisor and most recently as the Grand Province Advisor for the Michael J. Morin Province. He is a member of both the Greater Boston TKE Alumni Association and the TKE Northeast Ironmen Alumni Association.

Professionally, Shawn most recently was a Senior Vice President for the U.S. Small Business Portfolio Division of TD Bank in Burlington, Massachusetts and Cherry Hill, New Jersey. In 2008, Shawn was re-elected to his third three-year term as an At-Large City Council member, and is a former Chairman of the Council. Shawn previously served his community as a member of the Board of Education and as the County’s Budget Committee Chairman.

He is a proud donor to the TKE Educational Foundation at the lifetime giving level of the Scholars Society and a pledge towards the Commitment to Excellence Campaign. He is a Life Loyal Teke and was admitted into the Order of the North. He, his wife Terry and daughter Olivia reside in Scarborough, Maine.
