Frater Named to Top 100 Most Influential

Frater Ray ChambersNEW YORK – Frater Ray Chambers (Theta-Zeta, Rutgers Univ.) was recently named by Time Magazine as a Top 100 Most Influential Person in the World. Since his interview with The TEKE Magazine in 2006, Chambers has worked hard to eliminate Malaria through his creation of Malaria No More. He has taken this message to the United Nations as Special Envoy on Malaria and board member and global ambassador for Population Services Inc., the world’s largest distributor of mosquito nets.

Time Magazine’s contributor Ashley Judd said, “Every 45 seconds, a child in Africa dies from malaria. Ray Chambers has devoted his life to changing that. I have encountered heroes working to end this epidemic, and my friend Ray is one of the best. Thanks to the support of groups like his, PSI has just delivered its 120 millionth net, saving more than a million lives and preventing 100 million malaria cases. Ray has pledged to end Africa's malaria deaths by 2015. Don't bet against him.”

Frater Ray was first re-introduced to the TKE Nation for his extensive work in the Non-profit world five years ago. After many years working successfully in the corporate world, he saw the need to give back to his local community. His passion was lit after visiting a Boys & Girls Club, the one he participated with as a 10-year-old. The Ready Program was created to give children there the opportunity to get a solid educational foundation and become a beacon of the community. He promised a thousand children ages 5-7 in 1988 to pay their tuition through college. Many of those youngsters did go on to college and even came back to New Jersey’s town of Newark to make a difference. Read more about these individuals in the The TEKE.

He began the Points of Light Foundation with former President Bill Clinton, America’s Promise, and the Amelior Foundation. All of these have very similar goals; give children a chance to become something regardless of their backgrounds or hardships. This has been extended worldwide with his most recent efforts. Frater Ray has taken the building a better world motto to another level and his recognition is one way to say thanks for his tireless service.
