Fall Recruitment Simplified

Fall Recruitment Simplified

Fall Recruitment SimplifiedIt's that crazy time of year again when freshman come to campus and the chapter has the task of recruiting the best of the best to join Tau Kappa Epsilon. You have a plan (right?) and are ready to start pounding the pavement. Before you head out, there are a few things to think about which can make the difference between a man accepting your bid or the other guys down the street.

You were there

Do you remember your first few weeks on campus? No matter how much confidence or bravado was shown in high school, it may have been dialed down in this brand new environment. It's likely the majority of today's freshmen are in the same boat today. The moral of this story: Don't only go after the guys who are all about fraternity life and dial down the enthusiasm a bit.

Some of the guys who are doing everything they can to join a fraternity may be only concerned with the social aspect. Be sure the guy understands all of the responsibilities involved with joining TKE, or any fraternity. Don't be afraid to reach out to those who may be a bit more reserved, they could be the diamond in the rough. In regards to the enthusiasm, this is not to say you shouldn't be excited about showcasing the Fraternity and your chapter, but think about the pushy salesman constantly trying to sell you something you may want, but don't buy because of his approach.

Help Find a Friend

Much like the information above, one of the most significant factors for joining a fraternity is becoming friends with someone first. Think back to your first few days, having a good friend on campus really helped the transition to college life. Some may not be this fortunate, so they will rely on their roommate or classmate until they find others. Look for individuals who may need help finding a building for a class or a place to grab a coffee.

Moral of the story - don't wait for individuals to show-up on your doorstep, actively look for those men you want to join. If it doesn't work out, what harm is there? Think about baseball for a second: Men get paid millions of dollars and become All Stars if they hit a ball three out of every 10 times. For all the non-Math majors that is 30%! If every member of your chapter was that successful finding potential new members, you would be a top recruiting chapter for sure.

Have fun, meet some great guys, and ask them to join the greatest Fraternity in the world.
