Grand Epiprytanis Rod Talbot has been appointed to the West Orange Healthcare District Board of Trustees. Frater Talbot was nominated by the Rotary Club of Winter Garden to fill a vacant position on the Board and was ultimately approved by Governor Rick Scott following a sequence of steps.

The West Orange Healthcare District is an independent special district established by the Florida Legislature in 1949. A board of 16 trustees, approved by the Florida Governor to serve four-year terms, works to address the health and wellness needs of Orlando's growing community through the funding of healthcare programs and the expansion of healthcare services.

With nearly $200 million in reserve, the District awards grants to qualifying 501(c) organizations that are located within – and provide health or health-related services to residents within – the District boundaries, which are located on the west side of Orlando.

"A lot of people do not know that the Board even exists," said Frater Talbot. "Many organizations that are eligible to file for a grant would be automatically awarded.

"It is a lot like the TKE Educational Foundation Scholarships that are available. In many cases, Tekes just need apply and they are likely to receive a scholarship."

Organizations who have received grants from the West Orange Healthcare District for their invaluable efforts to support the health and wellness of West Orange County residents include the Roper YMCA, Shepherd's Hope, Dave's House, and United Cerebral Palsy of Central Florida among other organizations.

Frater Talbot currently has three years remaining in his term.
