Meet Frater Daniel R. Levinson
Frater Daniel R. Levinson (Beta-Sigma, University of Southern California) has headed the Office of Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) since September 8, 2004. HHS is among the largest departments in the federal government, with a budget of $640 billion and 67,000 employees. It includes Medicare, Medicaid, public health, medical research, food and drug safety, welfare, child and family services, disease prevention, Indian health, and mental health services. It also exercises leadership responsibilities in public health emergency preparedness and combating bio-terrorism.
As Inspector General, Frater Levinson is the senior official responsible for audits, evaluations, investigations, and law enforcement efforts, relating to HHS programs and operations. The Office of Inspector General is comprised of more than 1500 professional staff members who provide leadership in promoting economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in HHS programs and addressing fraud, waste, and abuse.
Prior to his appointment at HHS, Frater Levinson served four years as the Inspector General of the U.S. General Services Administration. Earlier in his career, he served a seven-year term as Chairman of the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board, and, before that, was General Counsel of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. He also has been a Congressional Chief of Staff, and has a decade of experience in private law practice.
Frater Levinson is a native New Yorker. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Southern California with an A.B. degree in International Relations, and earned his J.D. degree from Georgetown University. He also holds a Master of Laws degree in Labor Law from The George Washington University. Frater Levinson is a member of the California, New York, and District of Columbia bars, and is a certified fraud examiner. He and his wife, Dr. Luna Lambert Levinson, have two daughters.
Frater Levinson recently was appointed Judiciary Committee Chairman The judiciary committee serves as advisors to the Grand Chapter, Grand Council, and CEO on matters related to TKE rules and operations.
