TKE Educational Foundation Adds Two Employees

INDIANAPOLIS– TKE Educational Foundation announces the hiring of two new members to the TKE Educational Foundation Professional Staff.

Steven Strathmann (Mu-Sigma, Morehead State) will serve as the Chief Advancement Officer and Samantha Halsema (Sigma Kappa Sorority) will serve as the Advancement Coordinator for the TKE Educational Foundation.

Steven previously served as the Director of Development for Archbishop Moeller high school in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was responsible for leading all development initiatives including major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, volunteer management and stewardship. He achieved annual fundraising goals of more than $2 million during the last two school years.

Prior to his position with Archbishop Moeller high school, he served as a Consultant from 2010 to 2013 for several educational and hospital foundations in Ohio and New York. He graduated Cum Laude from Morehead State University in Kentucky and earned an M.B.A. at Xavier University in Ohio.

“We were particularly impressed with Steven’s track record of success and the diversity of experience that he will bring to the Foundation,” said Don Campbell, TEF Interim Chief Advancement Officer/CEO.

The Chief Advancement Officer is responsible for leading a team of staff and volunteers in planning and executing the ongoing development program and in the preparation of a national capital campaign in support of Tau Kappa Epsilon, one of the largest fraternities.  Key responsibilities include planning, organizing and overseeing cultivation and solicitation of major, principal, leadership, planned, corporate, foundation, parent and chapter gifts and prospect research. 

Samantha previously served as a Collegiate Recruitment Specialist for Sigma Kappa’s headquarters in Indiana. She was responsible for managing the organization’s first web-based recruitment management system, developing 25 peer-led recruitment workshops, supervising projects for a team of 28 volunteers and managing recruitment data for 120 collegiate chapters.

Prior to her position with Sigma Kappa, she served as an Office Administrator for Patriot Engineering & Environmental Inc. and as a Project Coordinator/Recruiter for Tradesmen International.

She graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and earned her Master’s in Integrated Marketing Communications from West Virginia University.

“We are all very thrilled for her to join the team. She has the perfect skills to make the TKE Educational Foundation even better,” said Emily Garrott, TEF Director of Advancement. 

Samantha will arrange and provide staff support for all TEF events, board meetings and staff meetings including, but not limited to, compiling materials, making travel arrangements, arranging meeting space and meal plans. Also, she will serve as the primary manager of the TEF donor database, generating regular progress reports, lists and other analytical tools for use by staff and Board members.

Steven began his new position on August 29th and Samantha started her new role on August 15th.

The TKE Educational Foundation was created as a way to support the academic and leadership development goals of the Fraternity’s active collegiate membership. The Foundation has donated more than $400,000 in scholarships and grants across the Fraternity over the past fiscal year.
