John K. Fabsits is an experienced and resourceful professional; highly skilled, communicator, motivator, and negotiator. His career encompasses years of successful relationship development, volunteer cultivation, membership recruitment, fundraising, and goal attainment with the Boy Scouts of America in various roles, most currently as the Director of Field Service/COO at the Boy Scouts of America, Lake Erie Council located in Cleveland, Ohio.
He originally hails from St. Louis, Missouri, where as a youth he spent many summers in the woods camping and hiking as an active member of the Boy Scouts of America, later achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Upon graduation from high school (St. Mary’s High School for those asking the popular St. Louis “Where did you go to High School?” question), he attended Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Communication.
Joining a fraternity was not on John’s radar when entering college. He soon realized he missed the comradery that he had while attending an all-male high school and being a Boy Scout. During the fall semester of his freshman year, he was introduced to members of Tau Kappa Epsilon as they assisted freshman moving into the residence halls. It didn’t take long for John and his roommate to attend recruitment events and John was initiated into TKE November 5, 2000.
Throughout his college years, he was active on campus having been elected to Student Senate and Vice President of the Student Government Association, holding several leadership roles in IFC and serving in various roles including Prytanis of his fraternity.
John’s involvement in TKE has continued long past his college years, having helped restart the dormant Beta-Theta Chapter at the University of Missouri, serving as Chapter Advisor, House Advisor, Board of Advisors member and Chairman, and Province Advisor. He regularly attends RLC and Conclave and often serves in a facilitator role or on a committee at these events. John has also taken an active role with the TKE Educational Foundation serving on the Advancement Committee and Scholarship Committee.
Upon graduation, John began what has become a career with the Boy Scouts of America, starting as a District Executive and working his way to his current role as Director of Field Service/COO. In his current role, he leads a team of 17 professionals working to deliver and grow the Scouting program to serve more youth.
John has been active in his community with several organizations and boards over the years serving in leadership positions with the Chamber of Commerce, Emerging Professionals in Columbia, Rotary International, Optimist Club, Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation, Missouri Western State University Alumni Association and the Jaycees.
He has been awarded with the 20 under 40 recognition by the Columbia Business Times, Graduate of the Last Decade by his university and has consistently been a High Performing Executive with the Boy Scouts of America.
In his free time, John and his wife Izzy (who is also active in TKE having assisted the local chapter with workshops as well as facilitated at RLC) travel across the state, country and beyond, spending time with family and friends, picking many flea markets and estate sales, attending lots of concerts, Cardinal games, and college football and basketball games…. Go Missouri Tigers!!
His hobbies include shooting, reading, running 5K’s, his ’64 Galaxie 500, volunteering for his fraternity and anything his wife wants to do…. happy wife, happy life!
John is currently working towards several career certifications including Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and Certified Non-Profit Professional (CNP).
