Frater Dustin Friedland Passes into the Chapter Eternal
It is with regret that we mourn the tragic loss of Frater Dustin Friedland of Beta-Mu Chapter. A 2006 graduate of Bucknell University, Friedland was murdered during a carjacking on Dec. 15. During Frater Friedland's collegiate career, he served as the Pylortes in 2004. He attended the 2005 Regional Leadership Conference in Philadelphia and the 2005 Conclave in New Orleans.
In the wake of the recent tragic death of Frater Dustin Friedland, many of the men of Beta-Mu expressed a desire to honor his memory through the designation of a scholarship.
A memorial award in honor of Dustin has been established through the TKE Educational Foundation, the criteria stipulating that the recipient is a member of the Beta-Mu Chapter and a Senior Engineering student at Bucknell. This scholarship will not be fully funded for awards until it reaches a level of $5,000.
If you wish to make tax-deductible donations to this fund, you may write a check to the Foundation, noting that your donation is for the Beta-Mu/Dustin Friedland Memorial Scholarship, and send to the Offices of the Grand Chapter at 7439 Woodland Drive, Suite 100, Indianapolis IN 46278. Donations can also be made online at www.tke.org/donate. Simply note in the Special Instructions box that it is for the Beta-Mu/Dustin Friedland Memorial Scholarship.
We are all still in shock at the loss of such a vibrant and empowering individual. Many have shared photos and memories of Dustin, and we encourage you to continue to do so as we all grieve for him. We hope that this scholarship will keep his memory alive and believe he would be touched to know that the Fraters of Tau Kappa Epsilon are joining together to create something positive from this tragic situation.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Friedland family this holiday season.
